by Dr. Séamus Cannon

Placenames offer a fascinating insight into our past. They can tell us something of our history and of the landscape as it was. This is particularly the case with the Irish language origin of many of our placenames, and in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown we also have some of Viking and Norman origin. What is the origin of Rathmichael for instance? And what does the Irish Tulach na nEaspóg add to our understanding of Tully? How did Dalkey get its name? Who was Laoghaire and where is Rathdown? Why are so many places called Kill? Séamus will give some insight to these and other questions in an entertaining illustrated lecture
